Texas Legends acquire Fourth Pick in NBA D-League Draft

September 23, 2010, FRISCO, TX -

First to my reades who are not familiar with the Texas Legends. Texas Legends is a developmental basketball league in Frisco, Texas.. President of the Texas Legends Basketball operations is former NBA all-star Spud Webb, a Dallas native.

I haven't written or said much about the Legends, however, as I begin to see more and more activity coming from the Texas Legends camp has sparked my attentions.

Here is the latest: The Legends received the fourth pick in the 2010 Development League Draft via a lottery at the D-League’s annual coaches’ meeting in Dallas earlier this week.

The Legends will use the draft to add to their inaugural roster on Nov. 1.

“The fourth pick is a great spot to be in the D-League draft format,” Legends President of Basketball Operations Spud Webb commented. “We will have an opportunity to get an exceptional player in the first round, and yet there will still be very good talent for us in the second round with the 13th selection.”

The draft flows in a “snake” format, such that the draft order of the 16 teams flips in each round. Thus, the Legends will have the fourth pick in the first round, and the 13th pick in the second, and so on throughout eight rounds of the draft.

"The lottery is always an exciting time because it signals the tip-off a new NBA D-League season,” said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League. “With the Draft order in place, teams are one step closer to determining their opening day rosters for the 2010-11 season."
