Dallas Cowboys win pre-season opener 24-23, Romo has competition with back-up QB's

By Katrina King

Welcome football fans, the Cowboys are back!.. The new Dallas Cowboys with head coach Jason Garrett who will take the helm officially as Cowboys head coach, begins his coaching season tonight against the Denver Broncos.

Also new this season is defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.  The Cowboys looked good in the preseason opener .  A few players played well and stood out but the one player in particular was back up QB Stephen McGhee.  Look out Tony Romo, you better not slip and get hurt because there are two well qualified QB's waiting and ready.

However, it is my opinion that Garrett will play all three QB's just minimize injuries.  Other players that showed promise was Felix Jones, #34 Phillip Tanner, Eron Riley, and  #14 Dwayne Harris.

However, it would be back up QB Stephen McGhee who would be named "Player of the Game."  bring the Cowboys from behind to win the game 24-23.  If Dallas really realize what they have in their arsenal, at their disposal with the QB's,  only creative and imanginative things can happen.

The 'Boys illustrated good potential under new coach Jason Garrett and Defensive Coordinator,  Rob Ryan.  The game was tight for the first two quarters both teams analyzing each other.

Finally, the NFL Lockout is over!. Are you ready for some football?!

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett and WR Dez Bryant
By Katrina J. King
That's right, the NFL lockout is officially over and teams can catch up on training camp maneuvers.  Pre-season starts in late August and teams are on the move to get trade talks complete, sign free-agents, and creating ways to keep the talented ones.  Cowboys head coach, Jason Garrett will be entering his first full season this year as the Cowboys head coach. Will certainly be interesting to see how the 'boys will perform, especially dysfuntional, non-compliant Dez Bryant.

LIEBERMAN TAKES ON NEW CHALLENGE - PROMOTED TO LEGENDS BASKETBALL FRONT OFFICE

Former Texas Legends coach Nancy Liberman (2010-11)
Joins Legends Del Harris, Spud Webb in historic front office
Frisco, TX (July 18, 2011) - Nancy Lieberman has been a collegiate National Champion, an All-American, Olympian, the first woman to play in a men’s professional league, WNBA player, Hall-of-Famer, WNBA head coach, and the first female coach of a men’s team under the NBA umbrella. Today, the team’s first head coach has accepted a new position as the Legends’ Assistant General Manager.
Lieberman led the Legends to a playoff berth in their inaugural season last year – becoming only the third coach in the NBA or NBA D-League to lead an expansion team to the play-offs. Now, she will have an opportunity to contribute to even more success from the front office.
“Nancy took on a tremendous challenge in becoming our head coach,” Legends owner Donnie Nelson commented. “And she embraced that challenge like she has throughout her life. She was everything I could have hoped for as a head coach.”
Lieberman’s path from the coaching bench to the front office mirrors Nelson’s successful move of the same nature in 2001. After nine seasons as an assistant coach in the NBA, Nelson moved to the Dallas Mavericks’ front office, where he is now President of Basketball Operations and General Manager of the NBA champions.
“I have no doubt that Nancy will be successful in her new capacity,” Nelson added. “Her experience as a coach will only make her a stronger asset in the front office.”
Lieberman’s 31 years in professional basketball have been filled with firsts, including her role as the first woman coach of a professional men’s team in the NBA or NBA D-League. She was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996.
“Coaching with the Legends has been a dream,” Lieberman commented. “The players did a tremendous job throughout the season. Their respect for the coaching staff, work ethic, and team-first attitude was everything I wanted to see in a team. That being said, I have always been very intrigued with management at the NBA level. The opportunity to work with Donnie in this capacity is too great an opportunity to pass up. I am looking forward to continuing to build the Legends organization and strengthening its reputation as the standard-bearer in the NBA D-League.”
The move not only moves Lieberman into management with a team under the NBA umbrella, but also will allow her to spend more time with her son as he finishes high school.
“My family is tremendously important to me,” Lieberman added. “The challenge of balancing my family life with my professional aspirations has long been one that I have embraced. I truly believe that every woman can attain both their personal and professional goals. My position as Assistant General Manager allows me to balance my schedule while maintaining my professional goals. I look forward to working with Donnie, Del, and Spud as we move towards our goal of winning an NBA D-League championship.”
Lieberman joins basketball legends Del Harris (1995 NBA Coach of the Year) and Spud Webb (1986 NBA Slam Dunk Champion) in the Legends front office. Lieberman, Harris, and Webb will play an integral role in a national search for her replacement as Legends’ head coach.
“Nancy has left big shoes to fill on the sidelines,” Nelson concluded. “She will have a lot of valuable insight for the next head coach. I’m excited as our team only gets stronger with Nancy taking on this new responsibility.”
The Legends recently announced that all center courtside seats for the 2011-12 season have been sold. Only a handful of premium seats remain, and performance opportunities such as halftime acts and national anthem choirs have also become very limited. Call 1-214-469-0822 or email info@TexLegends.com to inquire about season tickets and performance opportunities.

One More! Dallas leads series 3-2

By Katrina King

Wow! What an exciting game five of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks. I had the Mavericks as the underdog in this series, because favor, it seems, were giving to the Heat. I'm just saying.

With the series tied at 2-2, going in to game five, fans were nervous. The AAC was electrifying, the fans energy was at an all time hig. No way, were the Mavs going to lose with that energy going on. Both teams battled for the ball. Fans were standing in the aisles (no one could sit down), couples kissing each other, high fives , fist bumps and plenty beer drank),. This was the best series (historically & my first) ever. Entertainment, at its best. Thrilling and exciting! For the Dallas Mavericks, historical. Historical is the perfect word to describe this journey. 31 years in the making! How 'bout that.

Both teams are at a historical marker, Miami with their second championship since 2006, when they beat Dallas and the rematch, five years later. LeBron James made a good decision afterall, joining the Heat. Pat Riley, and the Miami organization have a vision. They win win their second championship..just not this year. It's the Mavs time now.

Game 5; Morning Shootaround-Tyson Chandler

By Katrina King
Dallas, TX - American Airlines Center

A must win for the Dallas Mavericks tonight going back to Miami. The series is tied at 2-2 with the best of 3 left to play. Dallas must win tonight in order to placed themselves in a better position to win this series. An absolute must win!.
During shoot around (practice) before game 5, I had the pleasure of speaking with Coach Rick Carlise about Corey Brewers playing time and second chance points.

Q: Coach Carlise, speaking on Corey Brewer, in previous interviews when asked about Corey Brewer, you have said that he's ready and active. We know he can 3 things off the bench: energy, scoring and defense, so the question is will he see some playing in this series?

A: There's a possibility. "What I like about him, he's always ready. It's hard to tell at this point in the game, we'll just have to see depending on how well the game is going. He's definitely ready".
Q: Coach in order to win this series, second chance points are going to be very important. What are your thoughts on grabbing offensive rebounding? " We have got to do a better job on the boards.. We have to work harder and better protecting the boards and not allow the other team to grab those points as well.

Jason Terry seemed pumped up and ready to play saying that the team realizes this is a must win tonight. Not worried about all the hoopla surrounding James and his lack of playing scoring (8 pts in game 4). "Don't care. Our job is to make sure he doesn't score." We've got to be more aggressive and consistent in this game and the remaining two. We know what is at stake tonight."

When ask about consistency in his performance, from game 4, Tyson Chandler says he realizes he must get involved early in the game and stay agressive. The players could care less about LeBron lack of scoring in game 4, JET, says "good if we got in his head, give us motivation".

MAVS WIN GAME 4! 86-83

By Katrina King

Images by Channing Jemerson

It was a nail biter tonight. The kind of game you sit on the edge of your seat. Wow! what a game! Jason Terry pumped the crowd up in the final seconds of the game, for more rowdiness. Jason Terry backed up his talk up these passed couple of days, saying he's tired of playing from behind. Well, he backed his talk up by leading the Mavs to a win.

Meanwhile, an ailing Dirk scored 21 points, the bench scored 28 points. DeShawn (11 pts), Jason Terry (17pts).

Mavs Must Win Game 4

By Katrina King
Images by Channing Jemerson

From the start of training camp the championship has been the goal. "The Time is Now" is the Mavs slogan for the championship quest. The time is here, tonight! To grabbed the opportunity to tie this seriesw 2-2.
Oh my GOD, the Mavericks are in a must win situation tonight. Heat up 2-1 on the Mavs home court. Not a good sign. Arrive to practice late, missed the opportunity to ask coach Carlise a couple of questions regarding offensive rebounding and turnovers.

Early in the season, in previous interviews and press conference, coach Carlise discusses stresses the need for second chance points. How the stratefy is not not allow the Heat any offensive points, what about home team. In game 3, Mavs only grabbed 12 offensive rebounds for second chance points.
Remember when Tyson Chandler in the Portland game how he grabbed 17 offensive boards? He hasn't grabbed anything remotely close in the Oklahoma series or in this series. What the Mavs need to do tonight is adjust their strategy a bit. First the focus needs to be on grabbing offensive rebounds gaining an adavantage on second chance points and 2, shake up the rotation, put in corey Brewer, he's got the energy, he can defend and score. Besides give the guy a break let him get in the game so his family can see him play.

Game 4 is a must win for the Mavs.. WIN OR GO HOME!

Not looking good for Dallas Mavericks.

By Katrina King

Images by Channing Jemerson

The Heat is up 2-1, winning NBA Finals game three final 88-86. I don't know where to start on this issue. Mavs, (long sigh) just wasn't there last night. Dirk was, but the rest wasn't. Can't explain what appeared to me to be another lack of cohesiveness with guys. They appeared to be confused, and bewildered.

No second chance points attempted - worth talking about - only 12 offensive rebounds. Three points more than Miami (9). Dwyane Wade scored 29 points in the game, LeBron 17, 3 rebounds; Wade 8 rebounds, 3 offensive rebounds. A decent game not his best, the same for LeBron James.

Carlise speaks on "not getting enough second chance opportunities". He is focused on minimazing the Heat allowable second chance points (Heat offensive rebounds), that he has lost focus on his on team grabbing offensive boards.

The last time Mavs went on a 20 point offensive board night was in the series against Portland. Historically, not known for offensive rebounding, the Dallas Mavericks need to change history and be known for OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING.

It's Game 3 of the NBA Final Mavs, Heat

By Katrina King

It's game three of the NBA Finals, who will take it all? Coach Erik Spoelstra: "So we have had a couple of days to think about it (the loss game 2) now. Obviously we weren't happy about the way the game ended. We came back to work yesterday and today to fix some of these things. Most important thing to remember, and out team has great perspective with this. There is not a good win in the playoffs and there's not a bad win. It's black and white. It's either a win or it's a loss. And you have to move on.
We have a great opportunity tonight. Our guys understand that. And we'll be better than we were down the stretch the other night. We're doing allot of good things in this series. There's a dangerous team at the end of the day. They executed better than we did down the stretch, regardless of how it happened.

MAVS UNBELIEVABLE FINISH!

By Katrina King
Images Channing Jemerson

An unbelievable finish in game 2 in Miami. Down by 15 poitns with less than 5 minutes left in the fourth, the Mavs win game 2. Stunned the Miami crowd, in fact, silence the Miami crowd. Dirk, playing with a hurt finger, scored the final basket leading the team to a win.

Jason (JT) Terry, hasn't played particular well in this series, left his man, Chumbers open for a wide open 3 which kept the Heat in the lead. In the fourth quarter, J.T. redeemed himself with his shots going down.

When asked what did Dirk have to say to him in the huddle sfterhe allowed the 3-pointer by Miami, "A lot of cursing was involved".

The Dallas Mavericks are Western Conference Champions!!

By Katrina King
Photos by Channing Jemerson

American Airlines Center -Dallas, TX - That's right I predicted the Mavs would win in five. In fact, I predicted so much so that for my individual class assignmnet, I presented a SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunities and threats) presentation on it. It was nail biting, standing room only crowd at the AAC. If you were at home watching the game, I bet, you were shouting and yelling at the t.v., sitting on the edge of your sofa. Bet you were. If you were at a sports bar, wow oh wow, you and friends had a great time!!!!

Dirk and Shawn Marion (statistically) had the same game. Both had 26 pts

First and foremost, congratulations to the Oklahoma Thunder, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook for outstanding performance in this series. With the drive and potential of the Thunder we will surely see them back this time next year. As the NBA Playoff slogan says: WIN or GO HOME. The OKC Thunder is officially on vacation.

Mavs win game 4 112-105

Dallas - Game five tonight at the American Airlines Center (AAC) against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Mavs lead the series 3 games to 1 (3-1). Tonight the Thunder is hoping to tie the game and take game six back to Oklahoma City. It's win or go home for the Thunder.

Coach Scott Brooks, former player for the DaDirk Nowitzki 40 llas Mavericks for two years, after being traded by the Houston rockets.. Coach B rooks said he didn't speak to coach Tomjanavich for three years. " I talk to him now" Brooks says with a chuckle.

" A minor setback for a major comeback" They call themselves the comeback kids. The Mavs beat the Thunder 112-105 in OKC in overtime bringing the game back to Dallas. Wow! what a game too!. Dallas trailed by 15 in the fourth quarter of game four with 5 minutes left. But pushed to go on a 17-2 run to win in overtime. Dirk Nowitzki had 40 points, Jason Terry tallied 20 points. Tune in to your local cable channel for game five. WIN OR GO HOME !!

Oklahoma City Thunder WINS game 2

By Katrina King
Photography by: Channing Jemerson

The Mavs won game one of the Western Conference final against the OKC Thunder 121 to 112. In that game Dirk Nowitzki made Maverick history by recording 24 FT made without a miss. He scored 48 points to Kevin Durants 40.

In game two the game was different. Dirk scored his usual points (29) and Durant scored 24 (with and took the win). What happen to the Mavs in game two? In game one, What happen? Record playing peformance, playing unbelievable basketball. Kidd was sensational passing the ball.

How did the Mavs sweep the world champion Lakers and allow Oklahoma City to beat them, huh?

The team played well however, they allowed OKC to get off some shots. James Harden was an asset off the bench, he had 23 points along with Eric Maynor (13 points). This time, OKC Thunder's bench outscored the Mavs bench.

MAVS WIN !!! Sweep the Lakers

By Katrina King
Images by Channing Jemerson

Dallas - The Mavericks knew going in to this game that they had to win. Fans knew that if anyone could blew a 3-0 lead, it would be the Dallas Mavericks.. But, not this time...a new day for a new Mavs team.

Jason Terry had the hot hand in this series, hitting 9 3-point shots (32 pts, 9-10 3's), putting the final nails in the Lakers coffin to win the Western Conference series. Jason Terry had the hot hand and literally carried his team to a victory.

Late in the second half the game became very frustrating for the Laker players. Andrew Bynum commiting the worst of the offense...it really was an assault, you know? Elbowing lil' J.J. Barea in rib area... He apologized...He said he did it out of frustration, because the Mavs were embarrassing them "throwing up three's avery where".

"I might be sick in the head"

By Katrina King

Images by Channing Jemerson

Dallas - During post game interviews with both coach Phil Jackson and guard Kobe Bryant, believe that they (the Lakers) still can win this series. "I might be sick in the head", says Bryant, but I still think we are going to win this series. Win on Sunday, go back home see if they can win in L.A."

Coach Carlise refer to the game as a slugfest.."It was a slugfest game, we were down eight, with six or eight minutes left, but we hung in there and kept battling. Given all the credit to franchise player Dirk Nowitzki. "Dirk Nowitzki made ithappen. Just about everything that happen down the stretch was a direct result of him either scoring the ball or making a play to get somebody a shot or make a pass for an assist for a three or a two or whatever it was. You got to give our crowd alot of credit. It was every bit as loud as it was in Portland the other day, and that was a difference maker.

That's what coach had to say read what Phil Jackson had to say: "Again, as in game 1, they finished better than we did. That was the difference in the ball game. they got to the foul line in the second half and we didn't. They made some threes in the fourth and we didn't. They deserved to win and we didn't"

During the game, at one point, Pau Gasol was unaware of his surroundings. Coach Jackson call time-out, hit Pau in the chest (out of frustration, of course), the question was asked by a reporter, "What did you say to him?" coach Jackson: "He grabbed the ball in the half court and wasn;t aware he was holding it in the position we always ask him not to put it in and Terry took it from behind and went down and got a lay up. I was just making sure he understood he needed to take care of the basketball in those sequences."

Mavs win game 2 in L.A. Ron Artest plays dirty.

By Katrina King
Photo Journalist: Channing Jemerson

OMG, who would have thought the Dallas Mavericks would be up 2-0 in the Western Conference Semi-finals of the NBA. That's right the Dallas Mavericks up two games to the Lakers zero final box score ( 93-81). Most fans were doubtful that the Mavs we go to L.A. and win two back to back games leading the series 2-0. Not me. I'm so proud of the team. I've covered the Mavs since 199-92 when Mr. Carter was the owner. So I've seen the struggle. Glad to see Dirk mature, grow up and learn to take on the attitude of not being scared. There's no scary cats in the NBA....are you kidding????
But these are the new Dallas Mavericks...No longer known for their soft and wussies style of play but a team to be reckon with. No longer will the other teams be able to "punk" the Mavericks into bowing down. No more!

Ron Artest pancaked my boy J.J. Barea near the end of game two then tried to hold him up.. He knew he would be suspended. Artest became frustrated and "clothes-line J.J. around the neck. Got to be tough JJ and know guys play dirty. However, I would become a strategist and get 'em back.
Certainly, the man in the middle have made he difference for the Mavs and that guy is none other then Tyson Chandler along with Brenden Haywood... The big men in the middle..When they both play well together the team wins. Mavs, Lakers Friday May 6, 2011 at the American Airlines Center, BE THERE! or turn to your local cable channel.

Spurs not Spurs of old.. Memphis leads series 3-2

By Katrina King
Photo Journalist Channing Jemerson

Memphis Grizzlies beat the San Antonio Spurs 110-103, leading the that series 3-2. The Grizzlies have stunned most of us with their outstanding performance in the western conference playoffs. However, the Spurs are looking mighty slow. Duncan doesn't look like the dominant Duncan fans are accustom to seeing play.
Yet, this is the NBA and with upcoming youth in the draft teams are able to get good sustainable players. Not surprising. More to come on game outcome.

Matrix holding his own.

By Katrina King
Images by Channing Jemerson

That's right, Mavs forward Shawn Marion played well during regular season and has up his game for the playoffs. His game has remain consistent and thank goodness his injury was minor. Without 'the matrix' I wonder how far along would the Mavericks be. each player on this roster plays a pivotal role in this team success.

To have these guys strong and healthy is paramount. Marion have been careful not to turn the ball over, get multiple fouls and his made equite a few free throws. No need to critical with this guy, clearly he is doing his job.

Arrrrh..Did the Mavs Choke? Portland wins game 3; 97-92

By Katrina King
Images by Channing Jemerson

Okay...I'm listening to Newy Scruggs show on 105.7 the Fan, and it is of his opinion that the Mavericks choked last night. Now I watched that game and I wouldn't say they choked, I'll say the referees had a subliminal mission. For example, in the first quarter, Chandler (Tyson) received 3 fouls, the team had 5 turn overs in the first quarter! Five turnovers in the first quarter!! Come on, refs!!

Chandler had a bad night got in foul trouble early - frustrating...Brendan Haywood could not knocked down free throws. Needs to stay after practice with coach Bowen to practice more...better yet coach need not be with Haywood to practice free throws. Kidd three pointers were hitting the rim, not the net. NO or not enough fierce activity on the offensive boards! NONE. Oh my Gosh, Mavs!!

Blazers, Wesley Matthews jump of the Mavs early setting an early message that he was on fire and focus. Matthews hit four 3's in a row. Portland crowd was CRAZY. Matthews scored early and didn't stopped. Even, Dirk missed three free throws, (13 of 23). not good. Swish hardly ever misses his free throws.

Mavs hung there the entire game. Clearly, this was Portland night.. Brandon Roy redeemed himself during the game. Still dealing with repercussions of wobbly knees. Roy with his emotional frustrations played well and didn't let his team down. Some sports analyst called Roy a cry baby for not getting playing time, apologized for his outburst. But it was understood, he was just frustrated. Coach McMillian was pleased with Brendan Roy's performance help lead the trail blazers to their win.

Mavs lead series 2-1. Game 3 Saturday evening 4:00pm start.

Welcome to 2011 PLAYOFFS Round 1 Game 2 Western Conference Finals! Mavs v. Trailblazers

By Katrina King

Images by Channing Jemerson

It's game 2 of the Western Conference Playoffs, Mavericks v. Portland Trailblazers!! In the first game the Mavs won 89-81. Mavs won game 2, 101 to 89. Mavs lead series 2-0. In the first series Jason Kidd played an outstanding game hitting 6 -3 pointers to add to his 24 point game on that night leading the team to its victory. Of course, Swish (Dirk Nowitzki) added 28 points to seal the win.

Kidd, scored 24 points by making 6-of-10 from downtownsetting a new personal postseason for 3-pointers made. Portland erased a 10-point deficit to lead by as many as six in the fourth quarter, but the Mavs rallied to take Game 1 in Big D with the win 89-81.

Time for the Dallas Mavericks to erase the myth of being the wussies of the NBA. Can't be scared...there's no wimps in basketball!

Jasssson KIDD!

By Katrina King
Images by Channing Jemerson

...did his thing, On Saturday night at the AAC. The Mavericks hosted the Portland Trailblazers in game 1 of the Western Conference Finals!.. Mavericks, guard Jason Kidd held off on us regular playing meek , steady basketball. But Saturday night...Saturday night... Kidd went off!, hitting 6 three pointers!!

Keep in mind, Jason (to my knowledge, and I will have to check his stats) hasn't hit a three this regular season. BAM!! The 38 year ole guard did his thing leading the Mavs to a win over the Portland Trailblazers 89- 81. Game 2 is Tuesday (4-19-11) in Dallas, at the American Airlines Center. Kidd was the spark off the bench in game 1 of the western Conference Finals! Don't miss game 2!

Mavs Corey Brewer spark off bench

By Katrina King
Images by Channing Jemerson

What a night for Dallas Mavericks Corey Brewer!! Not only did he start, he finished the game with 20 points! Good move for Coach Carlise he was able to bear witness to a hard player ready to take on anybody...all he needed was I chance (I like to take credit in making it happen.

In the post game interview after the game and win, coach Carlise first gave a statement about the Jason Terry a nd J.J. Barea conflict. All coach said, "it's an internal issue", and left at that when pressed to answer. Then coach took questions and talked about the game and the "Player of the game", Corey Brewer. One reporter asked about Brewer and the spark hw provided off the bench Carlise comments were evident. The kid surprised him. So as a reward for playing well in the game, coach started Brewer against the Clippers. In the first half , Corey scored 14 points (also bench points), two steals, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Carlise along with the fans, even Mark Cuban (who was chanting Corey! Corey! Corey!. After the post game interview, waited on Brewer for comment about the game...never saw him. Have to interview him some other time.

Mavs Owner Mark Cuban dislikes media coverage.

By Katrina King

Attended Mavs shootaround today before the Denver game tonight. Mavs play host to the Denver Nuggets tonight at the American Airline Center. Not much to talk about..Coach Carlise spoke a little bit about nothing, same rhectoric about the team. I ask if his line up will be different tonight against Denver and if the fans will see something different, such as Corey Brewer receiving minutes. The fans want to see something different.. His reply was "We'll have to wait and see". He went on to let me know Corey is active for tonights game. Regarding tonight's game against the Nuggets, Tyson dirk Chandler will not play neither will Jason Kidd. Chandler fell and hurt his tail bone and Jason is out resting up for the playoffs. This may be one of the few games (although crucial) Kidd will sit out.

In Other News: After shoot around, Mark Cuban held a press conference introducing a new fun way for the fans to become engaged at the game during timeouts or halftime. The new andriod device is called 'Augmented Reality'.. I'll talk more about the A.R. later. After the press conference about the new app (augmented reality) the talk turn to Mr. Cubans dislike for the way media portrays his company. It is Cubans opinion, the media negativity reporting hurts his team. He feels there should be less opinion and more fact, not both. If you are writing a column then it should identify that this is "opinion".. He prefers the reporter to keep opinion out of writing when it comes to his team. However, if the reporter has an opinion and wishes to write it simply state that it is an "opinion". Otherwise, he threatens to banned reporters from the locker room or limit their access.

The champions, Lakers are on quest to winning, or should I say repeating another championship win.

The Spurs in Boston tonight have a tough time defending the Celtics losing 107-97.

The Spurs haven't experienced such a lost like this this sine April 1997 Tim duncan return healthy just in time for the playoff run...maybe. With a healthy Duncan, Parker and a new game plan fron Popovich, Spurs may have a chance.

Mavs, Warriors battle it out Sunday afternoon @ the AAC

By Katrina King

After suffering a 108-97 loss in Phoenix the Warriors extend their four game road trip against the Dallas Mavericks. The second match up between the two teams in 5 days..

Having lost three-straight games, the Warriors are starving to turn things around. Though the Mavs are one of the top teams in the NBA, Golden State has played Dallas very well. Dirk Nowitzki led the way with 34 points as the Mavericks beat the Warriors 108-97.

Tonight, the Warriors are in Big D, taking on the Dallas Mavericks for their last match of the regular season. I asked coach Carlise in tonight's pregame media interview about what effective defensive techniques needed to avoid Golden State from jumping off to a 18 point or more lead in the first quarter as they did in the last match up.

Coach responded by saying that the Mavs "need to set the pick and roll". More after the game...stay tuned.

Coach called team "soft" did they respond?

By Katrina King

The Mavs win! 127-109. I was impressed I thought the Knicks, with their multiple offensive options, were going to be troublesome for the Mavs. I was wrong and I a not the only one who was wrong.

After last weeks lost to the Minnesota Grizzlies, coach Carlise said the boys were "soft", because they played soft. "Soft" was politically correct word use, I guess.
Me, I called them a bunch of girls.. sure did....hm.

Guess what, the Mavs responded by winning the game...big too! Beat the Knicks 127-109.. Dirk had 29 points, S. Marion, 22points

So Rick called them "soft" they played soft in against the Hornet.. Need the-step-on-your-throat-mentally, and win these ballgames. Break the curse...break the curse. What team with a decent record as the Dallas Mavericks give up double digit points (back to back) in the second half. Mavs gave up 41 points in the home game against Minnesota and again in New Orleans allowing the Hornets to sting them for 31 in the second half. Both games were down to the buzzer beater. Real good excitement.

So when the Knicks were in town, I just knew the Mavericks were in trouble. Well, I was wrong. The Mavs came out scoring, making defensive stops, grabbing boards (off/def).

Coach calling them "soft" ignited them proving they aren't "soft". I tell you what they are not and that is being consistent in play. Consistency, is the level of play they played with against New York. I still say the team need more aggressive consistent play.

GO MAVS!

Ohh no. The Mavs lose 11 stright to New Orleans

By Katrina King

In New Orleans, LA - The Mavericks can not win in voo doo city. Mavs mojo will not work. The fans all have their voo-doo dolls out and using them dolls as pin cushions on the Mavs. Mavs had a great lead up by 17 points at the half. Somehow in the second half the boys left their defensive game in the locker room.

A few guys played well, Tyson Chandler was a beast on the boards. Looks as if his ankle is feeling great cause he was slamming dunls all night long (sexy).. Jet was quiet tonight so were a few others, J.J. Barea, Shawn Marion left the game with a sore right rib and would not return.

In the post game interview coach Carlise simly said when asked if he was disappointed with his team play: "Sure, I'm dissapointed".

Mavs redeemed themselves with a win in Minnesota

By Katrina King

( Minnesota @ Target Center)

The Dallas Mavericks redeemed themselves to a 108-105 win over the Minnnnesota Timberwolves. the win didn't come easy. T-Wolves, Beasley was on the prowl scoring as if there were a full moon. In fact he and teammate Love were like wolves in a pack, prowling and tatunting their prey. But the Mavericks didn't give up, after the half they came out shooting with silver bullet buckets holding the T-Wovles and Beasley with every defensive stop they (Mavs) could muster.

Dirk was in early foul trouble in the first quarter so coach Carlise had to change the rotation in the game. He called on Brian Cardinal who stepped his game up with 12 points. Brendan Haywood had a excellent game last night showing his aggressive hussle in the middle. Pullin down rebounds and laying the ball back in. J.J. Barea had a great game knocking down 3's

Corey Brewer played a few minutes enough to help Dallas win and Roddy B. illustrates his foot is fine and he too, is eady to make this playoff run.

Disappointing loss for Mavericks breaking winning streak 103-104 Memphis

By Katrina King, captioned by C. Jemerson

What a heart breaking loss for the Mavs last night (Sunday 3.6.11). The game went down to the wire and then Grizzlies Zach Randolph threw up a high shot, and it went in. I wonder what happens to a team to make them give up 41 points to an opposing team only to comeback and win?!

Coach Carlise said; " We didn't take the challenge at either end. The whole game is the 3rd quarter. You give up 41 points, turn it over 6 times, and basically don't take the challenge - you get what you deserve. That's really the bottom line."

Ahh ohh... look out for the Knicks.

By Tina Marie
Source, The Sporting News

Look out! the Knicks are going to be the team to beat with Melo on the team. Whew, finally the deal is done ( 7 months) and Carmelo Anthony gets what he wants and is on his way to the New York.

The business transaction involves three team trade including the Minnesota Timberwolves. Carmelo wanted to go to the Knicks from the very beginning and the Knicks knew it. The Nets sealed the deal when the up the price sending Melo straight to the Knicks. The Knicks didn't get off cheap, they paid plenty for Melo.
In addition to Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks also received Chauncey Billups. Billups played in Detroit for a stint and six years in Minnesota. While in Minnesota Billups was able to bring and have much success. No doubt, Billups will deliver with the Knicks. His game will become superlative along side Carmelo and the rest of the boys.

The Knicks debut Wednesday night (2.23.11) at Madison Square Garden as they host the Bucks.

This will be Nowitzki 10 consecutive season, more than any Maverick player in Maverick history. Dirk said, "It is an honor to represent the Mavericks in the All-Star Game this year". Nowitzki continues, "I am always thankful and humble for the opportunity to play in the All-Star Game for Dallas and the best fans in the NBA".

Heartbreak in Cleveland

By K. King
Images by Channing Jemerson/TSB Sports

Ahhhh, what a heartbreaker for Antawn Jamison and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The team is struggling real bad to get a win these days. They have lost 25 consecutive games.
Cavaliers played a hard fought game but the Mavs played harder. Cavaliers lost within 2 points! Both teams fought for the lose ball and Dallas came up with it.

The impact LaBron James had on this team before and after his departure is noticeably visible in the "L" column. Antawn Jamison was devastated and disappointed at the lost. " We have to keep playing hard..We're playing hard unfortunately we are not coming away with a win" says Cavaliers Forward Antawn Jamison .

The Mavs brought in Peja Stojakovic to help the Mavs on defense, offensive and wherever he fits in. Peja have not played the game for a few months and arrived in Dallas not readily available. I must say I am not surprise when it comes to the Maverickss nad their trading practices.

Stojkavic started and will undoubtedly come off the bench to add relief to Tyson and Dirk as and when needed. Peja will be expected to score. The Mavericks on the other hand have won 8 straight games in a row. That's right eight straight games!. I asked Nowitzki if it is safe to say that the team plays different (losses) with him out the game versus with him in (wins). He had this to say: "

In the first quarter, Stevenson was shaking up by a defensive moved that put him on the floor against the Cavaliers and Dirk was rattled a bit on an offensive move that looked like he may have hurt his right hand.

I'm sitting high looking low and can see the teams trainer, Casey Smith, taking a look at that hand. Dirk leaves the floor headed back to the locker room to further examine his hand. No worries fans, Dirk returns to the game. Stojakovic will receive some playing time afterall.

The Cavaliers aren't the explosive team they were with LaBron James. They play decent, yet they have lost 24 games in a row!. There is a significant diffrence since King James has left.

Dirk and Tyson Showcase..together the Mavs win 5th in a row.

By K. King
Images by Channing Jemerson/ TSB Sports

Dallas, Texas - It's Mavericks mania tonight, starting Super Bowl week off with a win against the Washington wizards. The Pittsburgh, Steelers are in the house tonight but no one can get close to the team. The floor of the V.I.P suites the team occupy are in block off and you must show a ticket to prove you belong on that floor...the high dollar floor.

Having Dirk back in the line up really makes a difference for the team as a whole. Accompany by Tyson Chandler, contributing his 18 points, 14 rebounds (both offensively and defensively) of the night, and Dirk with 16 points, chances are the Mavs would have struggle for the win, especially their 5 win in a row.

Temporary player want be offered another 10-day contract.

#7 Sasha Pavalik (nose guard) , signed with Mavericks for 2- 10 day stints.
By K. King, Sports

Dallas - After the Atlanta Hawks game in the post interview, he announced that Sasha Pavlik will not be going forward with the Mavericks. During Sasha play with the Mavs he has been a force to reckon with, even broke his nose. he Mavericks have chosen not to resign Pavlik moving forward. He was able to blend with the team and really provide a reckon force. Emily Jones said "not your average ten day'er" . No he wasn't...he was in the starting line up a few times during his tenure with the Mavericks.

Opinion...Seven guys in double digits should happen each game...especially at home.

By K. King
Channing Jemerson Images/TSB Sports

Seven guys in double digits needs to happen in each game. When this happens the team then wins as a complete, cohesive team. Tyson Chandler appears to be the teams cheerleader on and off the court. Good...this is needed for team morale. Still, a bunch of wussies- with the exception of a couple of 30 -something.

Chandler makes the difference....

Dallas - The Dallas Mavericks hosts the Atlanta Hawks tonight (Saturday 1-29-2011) , at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. it's a clear beautiful night in Big D and the temperature is mild to low seventies. The Plaza is lit up with three dimension, high depth quality sliding , colorful screens.

The fans are out no matter what...die hard Mavs fans. Inside the crowd is eclectic....this is a good game between Atlanta and the Mavs. At press time, TSB doesn't have .
"Final Box" stats, yet it appears Chandler in
the middle has made a huge difference, while Dominique Stevenson) dominate the three spot tonight

While I don't have the final stats, yet, I bet Marion have scored good tonight, Dirk-although still shows signs that he is hampered by his knee, you can tell he is not comfortable jumping off his knee. Dirk remains adamant about scoring...and he does.

Brendon Haywood is receiving playing time and performing well. Hustling, creating shots, knocking down free throws, doing real good. The last time I spoke to Brendan is when he and coach Carlisle had their communication breakdown - I encouraged him to take his frustration out in the game, earning playing time. I guess he listened.
OMG, I can not forget about J.J. (J.J. Barera) he always bring his game each game. J.J. is only 6 feet tall, therefore, he is able to around and alsmost through those tall seven footers:)
Good to hear my good friend on the air, Derek Harper, former Mavericks guard - sitting in for another good friend Bob Ortegal. Good to hear and see you, Derek.

Super Bowl Stories

Wow...Thank GOD it's Friday....After a day of substituting teaching at a local itermediate school teaching 5th and 6th grade, it was refreshing to see a Channel 11 newscat at 4p.m. highlighting superbowls stories.

What was interesting aboutthis particular story is ; it hits home with me. I too, have received a transplant...a kidney. Anyway, in Channel 11 afternoon story piece was about a 12 yearr girl who had a heart transplant at the age of 5 months old...on superbowl Sunday 1990 -something.

The parents said that the received the call on that particular Super Bowl Sunday. Since, it is a family tradition to celebrate and watch football...Of course, the family are Steellller fans!! Me too. Haha

Great Super Bowl Story, Great Gift of Life Story, Great Testimonial.

Texas Sports Beat (TM) aims to spotlight organ donations aggressively. The writer/creator of this blog has had a kidney transplant after living on dialysis for ten, you hear me-ten years!!!

I find it so wonderfully amazing the stories I hear about people like me received a transplant and too,, those families of their lost love one willing to continue life by donating their loved one's organs. When this happens, alife is saved. The experience of knowing, someone died to save my life ....priceless. Now, some patients are able to received a "living donor" transplant as well.

Please take time out to become a organ donor...save someones life.

Beat L.A....Beat L.A....Beat L.A...

By Katrina King
Images by Channing Jemerson/TSB Sports

The Mavericks broke their six game losing streak beating the Los Angeles Lakers 109-100. with the win, Dallas Dallas improved to 27-14 after 41 games. Kidd scored a season high 21 points and 10 assists in 35 minutes. Mavericks forward Sasha Pavlovic, who was signed to a 10-day contract started for the Mavericks against the Lakers. He scored 11 points during his time in the game. Pavlovic isn't a bad player, he has potential to be a good scorer. He received decent minutes in the absence of Caron Butler

Sasha broke his nose in the second quarter quarter of the game against Dettroit ( 1/17) and returned for the second half. To help the Mavs beat the Lakers Jason Terry scored 22 points coming off the bench and contributed 7 assists.

The Matrix, Shawn Marion also came off the bench to record a team-high-tying 22 points. Nowitzki played in his third game since his injury suffering from a sprained right knee. He scored 14 points and pulled down 8 boards. Dirk played moderate careful not to reinjured his knee.

Let us not forget Kobe Bryant who entered Wednesday's game averaging 25.2 points per game tallied a double-double for the Lakers with 21 points and 10 assists. Still wasn't enough to put the Mavs away.

Coach Phil Jackson had this to say:" "We were very disappointed with the way we played. We thought we should have been up by 16 points in the first half. We let them stay in the ballgame and then they had that third quarter that was really a great finish to it. And they got us on our heels"
The question was asked to coach Jackson if he thought the loss was due to a lack of defense: "Yeah, I'd say a lack of defense. I think they had so many open shots. They just started making them and then the three point shooting won the game. I think we scored the same number of field goals, but they won it on the three point shooting".

Mavs on a down hill spiral.

By K. King
Images by Channing Jemerson

Snoopy throws his hand up in frustration. The Mavericks wasn't even close to a win against the Detroit Pistons on Martin Luther King Jr., Day.

Although Dirk is back the Mavericks can't seem to get the "W". this team have a history of playing very well to falling completely apart. Earlier this year, the Mavs was the number 2 team, behind San Antonio.

Now, with loss after loss, the Mavericks must find away to get their mojo back. Losing Caron Butler really hurt their scoring arsenal. Maybe so, but that is NO excuse. These guys are paid millionaires.. They have got to dig deeper within and pull a rabbit out of their hat or wherever it comes from.

Got to get the 'mojo' back!. Well, what ever the reason for the breakdown or disconnect the fellas need to find a way to reconnect. Coach needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat too.

Dirk returns to line up, Ian Mahinmi leads Mavs with 17pts!

By K. King
Images by Channing Jemerson/TSB Images

Road Game @Memphis - After some light shooting during practice and pre-game shootaround with the team in previous days, Dirk Nowitzki is in tonights starting line-up against the Memphis Grizzlies. It may be too soon for the big guy to get in there and run up and down the court.

Taking very careful and calculated shots, Nowitzki only played about 15 minutes of game time and 7 points. Becoming frustrated with the officiating , Dirk received two technicals and was escorted off the floor. With a five game losing streak, it's easy to see the teams frustration. Whatever the case, frustration has been building up within the team, some bad officiating also bare some blame.
Offensive play came from an unlikely source against the Grizzlies, Ian Mahinmi, Mavericks (F) played impressively tonight for the Mavs. Scored 17pts, 21 minutes and 6 rebounds. Unfortunately, not enough to help the Mavericks leave Memphis with a win. J.J. Barea suck from the FG, Jason (J.T.) had an awful night as well. Brendan Haywood played decent, Tyson Chandler was out ill.

The Mavs lose to the Grizzlies, 70 - 88. A five game losing streak. The Mavs have had two five game losing streak in the ten years.

NBA D-League; The Texas Legends

By Katrina King

The Texas Legends are the newest team to join the brotherhood of professional sports teams in the Dallas Fort Worth area. They are the NBA Development league (D-League) a sibling of the Dallas Mavericks and host their games at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, TX.

The Legends are headed by owners, Donnie Nelson, whom is also the Mavericks General Manager and Evan Wyly; President of Basketball Operations Spud Webb (Atlanta Hawks) who grew up in Dallas and former All-Star Slam Dunk winner; GM Del Harris (former NBA coach and assistant coach); and last but certainly not least Head Coach Nancy Lieberman, former SMU Women's Basketball coach.

The Legends have played good basketball for a development league. This league is also designed for rookies, such as Dominique Jones to further advance his basketball skills, as well as other players scouted. It's as if the Mavs can pull from their sibling league to play in the big league if needed. For example, if the Mavericks are plagued by more injuries, they will have a pool of players, good players, scorers, defenders to fill the need.

The Legends have a nice line up with six former NBA first round picks, introducing three of the three of those players, Rashad McCants, Joe Alexander and Mavs first round pick, Dominique Jones. Jones have since returned to the Mavericks lineup.

By K. King
Images by Channing Jemerson/TSB Sports

Dallas- Dallas Mavericks forward Caron Butler is out for the rest of the season. Caron injured his knee during a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on the road. Butler underwent surgery on Tuesday morning on his patella tendon/knee. He is expected to be out the rest of the season.
On his twitter page, Butler thank his many supporters and vows to be ready for next season.

It's another unfortunately lost for the Mavs with in a couple of weeks. Nowitzki went down against the Oklahoma Thunder and has not played since. It is not clear if Dirk will play against the game against the Thunder at the American Airline Center this Thursday.
