Mavericks Basketball

I'm watching the Mavs play New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night in New Orleans.  As the cameramen pan the floor  as they keep up with the game , I see owner Mark Cuban sitting one row behind the bench.  Cuban is one chair behind his team!  Wow!! Just how rich is Mr. Cuban?

Caron Butler is back in rotation.  He suffer a minor ailment a couple of weeks ago and has set out.  He's back now.

Roddy Beaubois is still on the injured list.  No estimate date when he'll return.

Former Rockets forward Ariza is playing for the Hornets.

Nowitzki is a born scorer...he gets his points(double figures) in most games.

Coach Rick Carlise favors actor Jim Carey.

Dirk Nowitzki is no punk!  He squabbles with the best of 'em.

Mavs win on the road against the Grizzlies 106-91

By Katrina King

Not too much talk about the Mavericks yet. Still talk about the Rangers and the Cowboys. Soon, and very soon all the buzz will be around Tyson Chandler who finished the night with 11pts and 8 rebounds. Jet led the team in scoring with 25 points on the night, Shawn Marion, 20 pts, Nowitzki had 12 (maybe he was tired) ,and DeShawn Stevenson added his 11points on the night. If Terry continues his excellent play off the bench, he should be given the 6th man award.

The Mavericks are 5-2 at home and 3-0 on the road. Seems the depth of scoring on the bench is slowly showing potential. Coach Carlise have to be creative in distributing and rotating the starting line up. With game winning consistency, coach must stick with the formula that's currently working. Tyson Chandler is the best spark (and Brendon Haywood) the Mavericks have had at the center position. History past, the Mavs centers suck! Hopefully, that era is over.

Coach Carlise likes Chandler's passion for the game. "This guy is becoming one of our heart and soul guys. He really brings a spirit, a toughness and an energy and you know, he was huge tonight, but he has been really important for us all season". Coach Carlise expresses.

After the game for post game interview Mavericks center Tyson Chandler had this to say about the win. " It's huge because we're a team trying to get to that caliber and that's where we want to be. We want to have that kind of mind frame so coming in beating a tough minded like this and withstanding their run in the fourth quarter was huge for us. I'd much rather have a game like this where you grind it out because it builds character instead of a 15 to 20 point blowout."

Wells said, Tyson, however, we want the 15 to 20 point blowout and character..how 'bout that?!

Shaq in street clothes wearing slippers.

This is Shaq wearing slippers in street clothes cheering for his team from the bench. Mavericks hosted the Boston Celtics at the American Airlines Center on Monday night Nov. 8th. The Mavs played well and again the new center for the Mavericks, Tyson Chandler played well with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Shaquille O'Neal, Boston's newly acquired center, did not play. Not sure if he was injured or he did not play, coaches decision.

Didn't bother Shaq much, he was laughing and talking with his teammates on the bench. I wonder; was his feet hurting?

Wade Phillips fired, Jason Garrett hired..

By Katrina King

Well...Everyone saw this coming. This is Jerry Jones team! No matter who he brings in as head coach (including interim and next years head coach Jason Garrett). Mr. Jones told his boys that if they aren't serious about winning, they too can go home! Please believe him. He is fed up with the losing! Mr. Jones is a betting man and a betting man is a winning man.

Now that Jason Garrett is the new interim head coach and feels very confident that he will be the next coach of The Dallas Cowboys!.. During his press conference, Garrett spoke with confidence, eager and a readiness to move forward with his team. This is his opportunity.

Mavericks Jason Terry with the Hot Hand!

By: K. King

The Mavericks hosted and lost to the Denver Nuggets at the American Airlines Center Saturday night, coming off a win in Denver. Mavericks guard, Jason Terry scored 23 points in the first half. Ahh, but holdup a minute, Nugget's Carmelo Anthony hands were hotter!

The Mavericks had a nice lead going into the halftime. No worries, I thought, this team is still in the evaluation stage. The centers spot is a concern. While, both Haywood and Chandler are aggressive, they are what I call 'passive-aggressive'......no fire! Tip of the day: Having no fire will get you traded. Overall, they both played decent with decent minutes.

Jason Terry was feeling it early in the first half scoring 23 points! H e spotted up on 3-pointers, made defensive stops, just blisttered Denver, making 9 of 10 of his points. My question is: why can't he perform at this level with consistently? Nowitzki scores double figures every game...I mean he is a natural shooter. When I get an opportunity to talk with J.T. ( I call him J.T.), I'll let you the fans know his answer...stay tuned.

Nuggets head coach George Karl talked about controlling Jason Terry in the 2nd half. "We were just trying to give him more heat. When he was in pick and rolls, we tried to put two on him, and he's so quick it's hard to do that". But somehow, someway, he had some open looks and he just missed. Maybe he got tired a little bit. But, that beginning of the 2nd half was 'wow'. I don't think our defense was that bad and they weren't hitting anything except the bottom of the net-not the rim or anything"!

Mavs newest addition to the center spot..

By Katrina King

Welcome to Dallas, Tyson! That's right, the Mavs new big man is Tyson Chandler, handsome huh, ladies. Chandler, a welcome addition to the Mavericks center spot, the number 5. Acquired by the Mavs from team Charlotte Bobcats aka the Charlotte Hornets (why the name change? who knows why) in a deal package including Erick Dampier, whom I assume is relaxing his knee
(riding the bench), enjoying his family and watching other teams play. "I love him", says Carlise, The guy is, he really had an infectious spirit as a person and a basketball player. He really brings some toughness to our team, particularly our starters because he brings a dynamic athleticism that we haven't had here at that position. Having said that, I thought Haywood did a really good job off the bench. He is being asked to take on a different role than he has ever had. He is out there playing against small lineups and all kinds of weird things and I thought he gave us a presence when Tyson was not in the game".

Chandler and Haywood gives the Mavericks two decent threats in the middle....if both players receive ample minutes along with game consistency, the Mavericks will become a dominated threat in the middle. Yep, indeed.

The big men must be aggressive underneath the basket and grab both offensive and defense boards, they need to develop a lust for it...Defense and offensive win games. Makes no sense to me why these players can not follow their dag gone rebounds!! The Mavericks have always lack in this area and free throw shots.....stay tuned for more..
